Review of Cloverfield

I found that this film did not give the audience at home a good enough understanding of the plot of the film. It was very brief in explaining what the actual monster was and why it was there. The whole purpose was to keep that a mystery but come on how much of a mystery do we want. It’s like the idea was created overnight with no thought to the actual purpose of this monster. The story line with the characters trying to find one another is the most realistic part about the film. The fact that they are trying to find help in a situation like that and to look after one another however, the whole creation of this monster is utterly absurd.
As the filming is done using a handheld camcorder the effect of the film is totally ruined, in fact it makes me feel dizzy. It does not give you enough information about the film as you are only able to see a small view of what is going on throughout the film. I can understand the idea of using a handheld camera to make it more realistic but it fails to give the film the potential it could have had.
