Rolling Stones Front Cover Analysis


This is the 1118th issue of rolling stones it is released on the 25th November 2010. Rolling Stones is an American music magazine that was first published in 1967 in San Francisco.
Rolling stones target audience are of white, male readers around 18 – 34. They may also have an older audience of people who would have originally brought the magazine when it was first published and have kept up buying it since the first issue. This would mean that the audience could go up to people around the age of 50. This is because over 61 % of readers of rolling stones magazine are men and 60 % of readers are between the ages of 18 and 34. Also 79% of readers are white. Most readers of this magazine would be middle class.
The main image of this issue of Rolling Stones is of Eminem, in this picture he is wearing a dark hoody. His head overlaps the magazine name, rolling stones; this is a usual feature to this magazine. As the magazine is well known readers will automatically know that the magazine is rolling stones because it is well known the title is not a shown necessity anymore, so it is able to be overlapped. As the title of Eminem is ‘the road back from hell’ the image of him is dark with the light only showing a small part of his face. The lighting when this image would have been taken would have been behind Eminem so that when he turned his head towards the camera there would be darkness under his hood and only showing us a small part of his face. This highlights his expression in this image which is an indication towards the title of his article featured in this issue. The research around this article tells us about his comeback in his career to having the biggest record in 2010.
On this cover of Rolling Stones there are around six different types of font. ‘Rolling Stones’ is in its usual font with the shadow around the writing. This is a usual feature to this magazine. The writing on this issue is all in the colour white, but it features a pink line underneath each section of writing. There are three colours that are specified specifically to this issue, these are pink, white and black. As Eminem is the main feature of this issue the writing that relates to him is the largest on the cover apart from the magazines title. This main title is around the same size as the magazines name.
