The CD cover I produced on Photoshop is for Katy Perry’s new single ‘Firework’. The cover consists of a large image of Katy, a firework that has just gone off and the title of the CD.I believe this CD cover would be aimed at a white, working class, female audience. This is because Katy is known as an icon to this specific audience. However, it may also appeal to a smaller male audience as Katy’s eyes are looking straight at the camera in a luring way. The outfit Katy has on in this image is an insight into this target audience because this is the fashion that would also appeal to them. Katy has a simple black dress on with lace sleeves, for girls in the target audience they would be more into wearing such clothes. Not only does the CD cover relate to the target audience music wise it also reaches them on fashion terms.
The picture itself is a coloured mid shot where she has done an attention-grabbing pose. Lighting to this image is brighter towards the top of the image; this is where Katy’s arm is. This indicates that on the original photo-shoot the lighting would have been above Katy focusing down onto her.
The image used in the background of the cover is suited well with the title of the single as the song is in fact called firework. This makes the cover more memorable because of the relation to the title.
The title of this CD cover is done in a very feminine font with the entire writing joint together. It is in a white font with a black shadow to the title that makes it look bolder and formal. I chose to use the colour white for the colour of the title so that it is visible against the dark sky background. It enables the target audience to be able to read clearly what artists CD cover it is without making any mistakes. The writing that says ‘Katy Perry’ is on a slight curve that slants one side down the picture where Katy’s arm is. This makes the image and title combine together to make it look more appealing to the target audience.
