How my media product represents social groups?

These two images are rather similar in the way that they are shown as they represent the same genre in music. The image on the left is the one i used in the production of the front cover for my music magazine, the other is of Annie Mac who is an artist of this genre in music. These images are similar because both images show a similar pose, both using their hands in their poses. In both these images the background is black making the people in the images standing out from this background. You can see how these two images are similar in the representation of the same genre in music.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
My magazine is targeted at people aged 16-25. The magazine is more aimed at a female audience but it could also reach a percentage of males. People that would buy the magazine would be interested in dance music, and know alot about DJ's and producers, such as Chase and Status, Example, Annie Mac and David Guetta. Through research i found that there are not many magazines available for this particular audience. However, i did find one magazine that reached this audience and it was called MixMag. As there are not many magazines of this genre this could mean my magazine would have a wide circulation because this audience of music is not being reached by other magazines. This would be different if i chose to use a similar genre as Kerrang, where there are a few magazines that reach this particular audience.
A typical person who would listen to this genre of music would typically shop in shops such as Topshop, River Island, Abercrombie and Fitch or Holister. They would be into phones such as iphones or Blackberry's, this can be due to their interests of music, these phones would enable them to play their music on them. People of this genre and many others would either buy their music off itunes or HMV. Personal interests of this genre would be Starbucks coffee or Costa Coffee. Programmes that would be of an interest to people into this genre of music would be programmes such as; The Hills or Hollyoaks, Skins or 90210. Most people who are into this genre of music would be single and not many of them would have any family commitments. Their main interests would be in attending lots of music events such as concerts or festivals. The magazine i have produced would reach these interests of my target audience because it shows detail into their personal interests they have.

How did you attract / address your audience?
I believe that my music magazine product would attract my target audience because of the layout and representation of this particular audience has been presented throughout my main task. The images used throughout my product are typical images of those who would be into the genre of music i have chosen. They show typical behaviour and interests that thsi audience would find appealing. Most of the backgrounds in my images i have used are dark and the writing is in a very bold colour, this would appeal to my audience because it stands out. Also, most of the audience would attend clubs that have a very dark interior.
What have you learnt about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?
When producing my music magazine i used three programmes to help me. I used Photoshop to help build the development of the product of my music magazine. I used Flickr to help me note the forms and conventions that are relevant to my music magazine. And, I used Blogger to post all my work onto a blog.
Flickr: I used this programme to add notes to the three parts i produced of my music magazine. These notes were used to show the forms and convensions used in the production of my magazine. I found this programme useful for the use of the conventions and forms used because it allowed me to target certain areas on the page and write about each part individually. It enabled me to show what i was talking about so that what i was trying to say could be seen and not just spoke about.
An advantage of using this programme in the production of my music magazine is that the programme is free of charge. Another beneficial thing is that Flickr is accessible at college so i am able to do my work at college and at home. As the site is purely on the internet it enables me to be able to do my work wherever i am, that is accessible to the internet. This advantage allows me to work away from college on the production of my music magazine. Flickr enabled me to organise my work effectively so that it was understandable.
A disadvantage of using Flickr as a programme for the production of my music magazine is that i am not always able to access the internet when i am working on my media work. When i am at home my internet does not always work, this would cause a problem with using this programme for my work because i would not be able to do this work because it is on the internet.
Blogger: This was a simple way for me to organise my work of my music magazine. I was able to use labels to sort out the posts so that it was more easily accessible. The programme also allowed me to blog my work that i have done on Flickr and Photoshop. With this i was able to show and write about the work that i have done. Blogger is accessed through the internet and can be beneficial when working on my magazine at college because it is not blocked by the colleges intranet. A problem with it only being accessed through the internet is that in some cases the internet is not always accessible, which prevents me from being able to do my work.
Photoshop: This programme enabled me to sort my fonts and images out to produce my music magazine. I was able to use tools such as 'colour replacement' to turn my coloured images into black and white. For my featured article i used this tool, it made my work look more proffessional. The use of this programme also developed my knowledge in taking the photos i wanted for my magazine, i was able to understand what angle i wanted my photos at and what i wanted in my photos. There was various other tools that photoshop allowed me to do with my work, one of the main ones of these was the 'quick selection tool'. This specific tool allowed me to quickly select parts of the image i didnt want and to delete them. I was able to get rid of the background to the photo to just show the image. On my front cover of my music magazine i used the 'quick selection' tool to get rid of the background of the image so that it could all be black. I chose to do that for this image because it made the front cover look more professional and made the main image stand out from its background. I also used this idea so that the font could be in white and stand out to be readable. A disadvantage of using photoshop for the production of my magazine is that i did not have this programme on my computer at home, resulting in me only being able to use this programme for my work when i was at college. It also took a while for me to be able to get use to the software i was using.
